Eric Masterson was introduced in Thor #391 (1988) by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz. He is best known as the mortal man who took up the mantle of the Thunder God and later forged his own heroic identity.
: An architect by trade, Masterson was injured by falling debris while trying to save a co-worker during a battle involving Thor and the villain Mongoose. To save his life, Odin merged Masterson with Thor, allowing them to share a physical form.
: For a time, Eric Masterson officially replaced the original Thor. During this era, he joined the Avengers and participated in major events like the Infinity Gauntlet . Unlike the original, Masterson was mortal, had a ponytail, and struggled to balance his duties with fatherhood.
